Where is a good place to go in Brazil for Carnival, other than Rio?

We've booked r/t air travel to Rio for 2 weeks in Brazil. It seems that most of the hotels in Rio are already booked for Carnival. So, we are looking for alternative cities besides Rio. Recife? Olinda? Salvador? any other places?

  1. Salvador e Recife!!! Olinda is in Recife so you'll be good!!! They definetly have the best carnival!
  2. Salvador da Bahia! You will have a blast www.brol.com - best airfares to Brazil, Best prices for Hotels, tours, carnival tickets, abadas for the carnival in Salvador call 1 888 527 2745
  3. well thats to bad RIO IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!! trust me... second best i guess Salvador... but try Rio, its a crowed city im pretty sure you will fit...
  4. If you like street carnival: 1) Salvador, 2) Recife If you like samba-school presentations (like Sambodromo in Rio): Sao Paulo If you wanna join carnival in Rio, watch out for a Hotel out of the city (Niteroi for example) Best regards, David Reumer
  5. I've ever been there (Recife, Olinda and Salvador) and I'm sure you'll like them. It depends the way you like to have fun in Carnival. These three cities stay in Northeast and there isn't Carnival with Samba because it's not their culture. Salvador: you can find a lot of things to do there. Its Carnival is based on Axé Music and it happens in 3 places - Barra-Ondina/ Campo Grande/ Pelourinho. It's a street party and you don't need to pay to go there, but I have to say if you stay on the street you'll feel like a sardine. You could rent an apartment at Barra-Ondina (in the right place of the party) and you'll have fun and see everything you want inside your AP. If you wanna go to the party, you'll just need to go down and join with the people. Recife-Olinda: It's free too. It has one of the biggest Carnival (I think it's the biggest, but I'm not sure). The musical style played there is Frevo. It's really good. I prefer there than Salvador because in Salvador the Carnival is more violent and expensive (The entrance is free but of course if you wanna something you have to buy) . In Recife it's calm and you don't need to have too much money to have fun! I put Recife-Olinda because Recife is near Olinda (sister cities) and their Carnival is together. You could go to São Paulo too. The Carnival there is based on Samba (like Rio). It's a rivality they always had to know which the better one is. hehehehe. Ok! I think it's enough. You can think "c'mon! Brazil is the Carnival country!"... and I say: on theory yes, on practice nope! Why? Because the only places that have those big parties are on these cities. Almost all the cities in Brazil don't do anything. The people prefer to rest or travel to calm places! Got it? I hope I've helped you!
  6. Bahia... Pernanbuco... But I really think that if you don't get book for Rio you will not get for this others cities because it's greater than Rio...And Rio is Wonderful!
